Want Heads Road Declared Highway
Declaration of the main road from Ocean Beach to Whangarei as a highway is to be sought by the Whangarei Heads branch of the Farmers’ Union. The present state of the road was described at the last branch meeting as “terrible, to put it mildly.”
It was felt that the sooner everyone who used the road realised that its maintenance out of rates was impossible the sooner something would be achieved. The branch could see no alternative to a united effort by local farmers, the general rateayers who paid the maintenance on the road, and tourists, mainly Whangarei townspeople, in an approach to the Minister of Works asking that the road be declared a highway. *
. The meeting was well attended, matters discussed being mainly of a local nature.
