Sweetwater Fire Causing Concern

(Special) KAITAIA, This Day. The sudden week-end wind change brought fresh danger from a swamp fire at Sweetwater, near the former army camp. Members of the staff of the Land and Survey Department ai'e out fighting the fire today. With the strong wind it is feared the fire may travel towards Russell Lake, scene of last week's big outoutbreak. TWO DANGER SPOTS OUTEI) On Saturday departmental staff extinguished an extensive fire in the Waipapakauri sandhills. The Kaitaia swamp peat fire is still burning. Banger to the fine kauri stand at the western extremity of the Mangamuka Ranges has been removed by the quelling of a fire which started in scrub at Hie northern entrance to Herekino Gorge. A slight drizzle fell in Kaitaia for ten minutes last evening.
