Vacancies For 1000 Girls, Women
(Special) INVERCARGILL. This Day Tn Otago and Southland there arc vacancies lor 1000 young girls and women.
This was stated by Mr M. W. Grantham, chairman of the Industrial Mahpower Appeal Committee for Otago and Southland
He said the position at the hospitals was already desperate, and he did not .know how they would get on after February 28, when the order of essentiality covering hospitals would be revoked. At Sea cl iff, nurses were supposed to work for two days, then have one day off, but because of the staff shortage, some of the nurses were working for ten days on end. Cooks were almost unprocurable, although £5 or £(> a week was ofi’ered. Thcvc was a serious shortage of Jennie l.thour In hi-'.! .vie?. He men tinned <.nr: faclor; that had only 25 girls left out of ail original stall’ of 75. M; ny girls had left their employment in order to marry returned men.
