No Train Seats; Miss Boat To N.Z.
SYDNEY, January 3.
After waits of up to three months for passages to New Zealand, ten people, mostly women, have been defeated by the railway restrictions. A ship is waiting for them in Melbourne, but seats cannot be found for them on the express from Sydney. The Railway Department has found seats for over 250 travellers who left Sydney to join the liners Athlone Castle and Rangitata in Melboui'ne for New Zealand, but reservations did not exist for the final ten of the Sydney contingent. They are booked by the Rangitata, which is to sail from Melbourne tomorrow, and tonight’s express is the last that could get them south in time.
