Kawakawa
(Five Required) MR. R. W. CONNING. Coming from Wellington five years ago, Mr. Reg. Conning has been electrical inspector for the Bay Power Board at Kawakawa in that period. Electrician to Wellington City Council for three years, and was also in electrical business on his own account. MR. O. C. GODFREY. Coming to Kawakawa from Auckland in 1925, Mr. O. C. Godfrey started out in business as a garage proprietor in 1931. A newcomer to town politics, he has been a local fire brigade foreman for the past six years. His principal interest lies in the problem of Kawakawa’s water reticulation. MR R. D. JOHNSTON.—Born in Northland. Mr Robert Douglas Johnston is a sitting member of the Kawakawa Town Board, and is seeking election to the Bay of Islands Hospital Board. A storekeeper at Moerewa, he previously followed the same occupation in Tauranga and Waitoa. While not of long residence in the north, Mr Johnston has manifold interests. He was a handicapper for the old Bay of Islands (Kawakawa) Golf Club and is club captain for the new Waitangi Club. This is Mr Johnston’s initial essay at any local body other than the Town Board.
MR. D. A. LUSK.—Proprietor of the Star Hotel, Mr. Dave Lusk has sepn eight years’ service on the Kawakawa Town Board, the last two as chairman. His many other activities include presidency of the Bay of Islands Racing Club, Golf Club and Rugby Football Union, also of the Kawakawa R.S.A. Keen member ol the Eay Acclimatisation Society.
MR. L. E. PORTER.—In three and ahalf years with the P. and T. Department, Kawakawa, Mr. Laurie Porter has gained a knowledge of Kawakawa and its surrounding districts. He is this year's president of the Kawakawa and District R.S.A., and has been on the Kawakawa School Committee for the past 18 months. Newcomer on Dental Clinic Committee.
MR. G. C. PREEBE.—Mr. G. C. Preebe is Queensland-born, and has spent the past three years In business in Kawakawa. He came to New Zealand in 1935 and attended the Whangarei High School. He is a Kawakawa fireman, and has been a keen golfer and tennis player.
MR. R. ROBINSON. Another newcomer is Mr. Ray Robinson, fire brigade foreman for the past three years. He has also been president of the Moerewa Freezing Workers’ Union for the past year and has had two years on the Kawakawa School Committee.
