Believes Food Controls Must Continue

(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day

, The opinion that the organisation ,of food supplies must continue under international control until the world situation became normal was expressed by the Farmers’ Union president (Mr W, W. Mulholland), addressing the annual conference of the Auckland Farmers’ Union today. He declared that producers must make every effort to aid the cause of the Allied Nations. He reminded the conference of the ordeal of many British farmers under bombing, and said that large numbers of land girls had had to wear steel helmets.

Speaking of the post-war outlook, he said it was obvious that millions of people would be in a state of semistarvation, while others would face full starvation. The Dominion would experience a shortage of animal products. The stock position in Europe would be serious.

More Vigorous Policy

“We all agree there is need for a more vigorous policy,” said Mr E. R. Bird (Kaitaia), speaking at the conference when it decided to set up a committee to report later in the day on re-organisation of the union and to indicate a policy of action for the future.
