Australian Reds Not Following U.S. Lead
(Received 2.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
The Australian Communist Party does not intend to follow the example of American Communists, stated the president of the Australian Communist Party (Mr L. Sharkey), commenting on the decision of American Communists to dissolve as a political organisation. Like the Communist parties of Great Britain, France and other European countries, the Australian Farty’s policy was to press for Socialism in the immediate post-war period.
In the United States there was no Labour Party on a national scale and the trade union movement was comparatively weak. These factors made a direct struggle, for Socialism out of the question in the United States at the moment and no doubt were factors prompting the dissolution of the Communist party there.
