Dominion Swimming Champ. Finals Tonight
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. This Day. The form of the first two days was maintained when heals were swum this morning in some of the concluding events of the New Zealand swimming championships. In the senior ladies’ 100 yards, Ola Hobson (Canterbury), winner of the 440 and 220 titles, won her heal in a manner which suggested that she will complete her treble tonight. She displayed her characteristic finishing power to defeat Norma Griffin (Auckland) by four yards, with Ngaire Lane, who made the pace for the first lap, a touch behind Griffin, third. Kathleen Grey (Auckland), who holds the New Zealand record ot 63 2-ss. for this event, won her heat, leading throughout, but only a narrow margin separated her from J. Baughan (Canterbury), who just beat B. G. Westcrby (Southland). Hobson’s time was 1 4-ss. faster than the Aucklander's. Intermediate Breaststroke V. Vial, intermediate boys’ breaststroke New Zealand record holder, outclassed the other competitors in two heats, for he easily won his heat in 13s. faster time than Simonsen, the other heat winner.
In the intermediate girls' freestyle class, it was evident that there would be another duel between B. Casey (Wellington), 220 yards title winner, and N. Bridson (Auckland). The latter this morning swam 1 2-ss. faster than Miss Casey. C. Chambers (Canterbury) looks like taking his third title in the intermediate boys’ class, for he won his heat of 220 yards in considerably faster time than the other three heat winners.
Form in the junior girls’ freestyle 100 yards suggests that R. R. Morrison (South Auckland) will win the final, while M. Teague (Wellington) will make a good race of it with the Otago representatives, three of whom qualified for the final in the 75 yards girls’ breaststroke. Results: —
