Australia To Double Meat Supply To Britain
(Rec. 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Federal Government hopes to export 250.000 tons of meat yearly to Britain, which, according to departmental statistics, is now receiving only 100.000 tons yearly. The average peacetime tonnage of meat exported from Australia to Britain was about 250,000 tons. A Commerce Department spokesman stated that the Government hoped to double the present meat exports to Britain, but before that can be done, problems of manpower and shipping have to be overcome.
