Children’s Great Day At Moerewa Sports

(Special.) MOEREWA, This Day.

Five hundred children, half of them competitors, took virtual charge of Simpson Park, Moerewa, yesterday, when the Bay of Islands School Sports Association held a highly successful inter-school sports gathering. The gathering was the second annual event, and is a revival of meetings which used to be'held many years ago. Four district high schools—Kaikohe, Kawakawa. Okaihau and Kaeo—and 13 other schools Moerewa. Tautoro, Fabaraka, Oromahoe North, Matawaia North. Kaikohe Native," Rahiri Native, Waikare Native, Karetu Native. Opua, Russell. Paihia. Maromaku—were represented. Four special carriages were attached to Ihe regular train from Okaihau, and were taken through Otiria Junction to Moerewa to obviate a long walk by the children. The weather was perfect, sunshine prevailing for most of the day, with enough light breeze to cool the heat.

Championship Points,

Kawakaw. with a total of 129 points, ran out a decided winner among the high schools. Kaikohe was second with 82 points, followed by Okaihau with 57. The Kaeo cpntingent was only a small one and would not bear figure comparison with the larger groups insofar as totals were concerned. These figures were divided as follows: Senior —Boys: Kawakawa 40, Kaikohe 33, Okaihau 7. Girls: Kawakawa 34, Kaeo and Okaihau 13 (tie), Kaikohe 11. Intermediate Boys: Kaikohe 27, Kawakawa 15, Okaihau 13. Girls: Kawakawa 40, Okaihau 24, Kaikohe 11.
