U.S. Delivers 130 New Ships In February

WASHINGTON, March 5,

The Maritime Commission has announced that American shipyards delivered 130 now ships, totalling 1,239,000 tons in February, comprising 31 Liberty chips, 15 C type cargo ships, nine tankers, 23 special types, one concrete barge and one coastal cargo ship. Air, Sea Production Advance The Navy Secretary (Colonel Knox) told a Press conference that sea and air production had reached an all-time record for February, when 1400 planes were turned out. over half of which were combat planes. There were also 200,000 tons of shipping, including 150 warships, and over 700 landing barges. Moreover, a new type of- anti-sub-marine ’vessel had beeii designed to relieve destroyers for aqttial , combat. It is larger than a corvette-and-smaller than a destroyer and is approximately 1300 tons. The hull is over 300 feet long and beam 35 feet. ~ <" Colonel Knox disclosed that several of these vessels, which are more powerful and more effective than a corvette, are already in service. He concluded that the March output was expected to be even better.
