Pushing Japs. From Salween’s Banks
(Rec. 11 a.m.) CHUNGKING, March .7 A Japanese column, striking northward from the neighbourhood of Tachupa, on the Yunnan-Burma border, met stiff Chinese resistance and made no progress, says a Chinese communique.
* Chinese forces on the east bank of the Lunghuan River captured Kiangtzuchen. Enemy remnants fled to Tengchung. Heavy losses were inflicted on the enemy when Chinese attacked near Neihchihao in the Hupeh-Hunan border region where fighting is still in progress.
A Central News Agency message says that a Chinese counter-offensive is progressing in western Yunnan on the banks of the Salween River, pushing the Japanese towards Burma. The Chinese have captured many towns, including Manyunkai, Pangwachai, Tassutse.
Other Japanese forces are retreating westward along Kunming - Lashio railway towards Kunlung. The Chinese have recaptured Mengting.
