Destructive Fire At Dunedin
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, This Day. A destructive fire swept the upper floor of Macduft's. Ltd.'s department store in George Street, early on Tuesday morning, the damage to stocks and building running into many thousands lof pounds. A calm night facilitated a | speedy save, the outbreak being extinguished in 20 minutes. The brigade’s new extension ladder proved its value, enabling a lead of hose to be established at once from the roof of the adjoining State Theatre. Although the fire was Confined to tire second floor, torrents of water poured through the ceiling on to the shop counters and floors. The stock is covered by an insurance policy with Lloyds. Wellington, for £15,000, and the fixtures and fittings for £4OOO.
