Asks Army To Help With Road Maintenance

The Area iStaff Officer, Area 3 (Major A. H. McLauchlan) wrote to the Whangarei County Council today stating that the Council proposals re maintainance of County roads had been forwarded to Headquarters. Northern Military District, with a request for early consideration. The proposals submitted by the County Council were the outcome of recent discussions between the Area Officer,. County Chairman, and County Engineer. The County Engineer advised that the roads leading to Aamy camps in the district are rapidly deteriorating, mostly due. to Army traffic and the County Council is faced with heavy maintainance on the army-used sections of road, and contractors for metalling work are not available at the present time. Comprehensive proposals were submitted to the Army authorities by the Council.

The chairman stated that with the engineer he had gone over all the roads concerned, and the facts are as stated in the report to the Army authorities.

Mr. A. Clarke in moving that the correspondence be received, congratulated the Chairman on the able way the chad been submitted to the Army authorities. Mr. R.Fcrycr considered the report was so well phrased that even the military mind could grasp the position. The motion was carried.
