W.O.H.H. Kereapa

W.O. 11. Hitini Kereapa, of Whangaroa. was 33 years of age when he died of wounds, while serving with the Maori Battalion.

He was employed in the Lands and Survey Department. Auckland, from the time he left St. Stephen’s College, till his enlistment in November, 1939, a total of 15 years’ service. He was a member of the Manakau Rovers Rugby Football Club, represented Auckland at Rugby in 1935, and was also a keen amateur wrestler. He went overseas with the Maori Battalion in April, 1940. He was a grandson of the well-known Arawa carver, Tene Waitere, and a brother of Guide Rang'i, at Whakarewarewa.
