Collection Of Waste Paper In Rural Areas
The Whangarei County Council was asked today by the local branch of the Awake New Zealand Campaign to assist in conservation and collection of waste paper in the country districts. “It. would appear to me that there is very little waste paper in country areas,” said the chairman (Mr. J. A. S. Mac Kay.
“I am satisfied, however, that there is a certain amount of waste rubber about milking sheds. This could be brought to dairy factories by the suppliers.” He moved that dairy companies in the area be approached for tneir co-operation, and asked to get their respective suppliers to bring to the factory any waste rubber and paper. Large Amount Obtainable
Seconding, Mr. R, Feaver thought there was a good deal of waste paper to be obtained from country areas. He personally had brought in to the depot two sacks of waste paper. Mr. A. Clarke considered dairy factories should be informed of the name of the collecting authority. Mr. W. Powell: Are the authorities doing all they can to conserve paper? I have seen several large catalogues being delivered to houses. It is useless asking individuals to conserve paper when large concerns do not appear to sufficiently conserve supplies.
The chairman: There is undoubtedly a large amount of waste. On the other hand, there is a large effort being made to conserve supplies, and we will not get perfection. Our individual duty is to do our own little job. The motion was carried unanimously.
