No Motor Number Plates Next Year

[Per Press Association.—Copyright] WELLINGTON, This Day. There will be no new issue of number plates for motor vehicles next year, nor for the duration of the war. In a letter to Mr. S. G. Holland, the acting Prime Minister (Mr. Nash), intimates that the question of dispensing with an issue this year was investigated by the Transport Department, but it was found that manufacture was advanced to such a stage that it would be better on the balance to complete the work than to arrange for its cessation. The manufacture of these plates is in the hands of one company, and it has made its arrangements well ahead for all materials necessary for production,, starting months in advance of delivery' date. Arrangements have now been made for cessation for the duration of the war.
