Payment For Dairy Produce On Store Warrant Advocated
r Special to “Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND, This Day
In moving a remit favouring payment for butter and cheese on store warrant, Mr. R. Harrison (Bay of Islands) said at yesterday’s session of the Auckland Provincial Conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union that farmers’ returns were diminished by the storage and interest charges incurred by their dairy companies while the produce was in store. The remit was passed. The need for some safeguard for farmers who leave their property to serve overseas, was urged in a remit which was carried. It was considered that if the land or livestock of farmers depreciated because of their war service,. they should be compensated for apparent and measurable loss sustained. Several speakers agreed that the question was an important one, which should be dealt with at the present time. Another remit urged the provision of long-term table loans from the Reserve Bank for farmers, by advances on land and stock security.
Compulsory membership of The Home Guard was advocated in another remit adopted.
