Hikurangi, Kamo Miners At Russell

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] RUSSELL, This Day

As usual, Kamo and Hikurangi miners and their wives and families have been making Russell their annual rendezvous.

Among those enjoying a record weather spell are Mr and Mrs J. Platts, Messrs W. Platts, R. Malcolm, G. Wilson, J. Spiers, W. Ware, P. Hart, A. Lawson and Frank Wilson, who, with their respective families, form quite a colony. Several families were unable to make the trip this year.

The Rev. J.| D. Jensen, Baptist minister of Whangarei, with his wife and family, appear to be enjoying theii holiday here, judging from the fish he was filleting last night. Large Shark Caught.

The ever-popular sport of deep-sea fishing is now in full swing off Cape Brett and to Mi'. Miies Cassidy goes the distinction of having caught the biggesi shark of the new season —a shovel-nosed, which in being officially weighed by Mr. Gordon Hassall at the Otehei Lodge Camp, tipped the scales at 600 lbs. It measured 10 feet in length. , This monster was played for over four hours before being hauled on the deck of the launch Reliance, skippered by Stan. Adamson, of Russell.
