Kensington Full Rink Tourney Won By Auckland Four

BOWLING

In an exciting final, a Rocky Nook (Aucldand) rink, Hart, Head, Brydon and Nugent, won the Kensington Bowling Club's annual full-rink tournament which was concluded last evening.

Runners-up were a Whangarei four, Wood, Walker, Gribble and Erceg. The final was won by Nugent, 15—13, after a great game. In the first head, Nugent opened his score with one by drawing a toucher. The second head was all round the kitty and with Nugent’s last bowl he was one up, but Erceg ran through the head and got the point. With the skips to play in the third head, Erceg was two up and this was not altered after all bowls had been played. Nugent evened the score in the fourth. Hart had drawn the shot and then Gribble wicked Brydon in for two. Erceg was over the head and Nugent drew position bowl. Nugent drew position bowl in the fifth. Erceg shifted the kitty and, although he was still one down, drew shot with the last bowl. In the sixth Brydon rested one up, but Erceg altered this to score one and bring his score, 5—3.

Gribble Draws Weii.

Gribble drew perfect bowls on jack in the seventh and Erceg was two up when the skips started. Erceg covered up, but, playing a wonderful bowl, Nugent saved one. In an open head in the eighth, Erceg scored another point. Brydon pushed up the bowls for two in the ninth, Gribble touched kitty but failed to alter, while Erceg drove and wicked kitty through, but was still one down.

Nugent drew on the edge of the ditch and, with his last bowl, drew another to secure two.

Nice Bowling in 10th,

Nice bowling was seen in the 10th which ended with Erceg playing a running shot for one point.

In the 11th Hart drew the shot, then Brydon increased this to two up, but Erceg, playing a great shot, rested through for one. Head drew a beautiful shot on the jack in the 12th and Brydon drew another, but Gribble drew to jack and this score was not altered after the skips had played. Brydon pushed the shot through in the 13th for two down and though Nugent played a perfect run, taking the kitty td the ditch for three, Erceg saved one. The score was now 10—7 in Erceg’s favour. Wicking four times into shot in the 14th, , Erceg secured one. The 15th head ended with another point for Erceg, but Nugent secured one in the 16th after he drove through, taking out his opponent’s shot bowl. With a great shot in the 17th Brydon trailed kitty and left the head one down, which was not altered. Evened in 19th. Nugent secured a four in the 18th and, playing a wonderful running shot, pushed the Whangarei team’s shot bowl out. He evened in the 19th, which finished 13 all.

Nugent played a great draw, pushing Brydon into shot, while Erceg played up to the head but just failed to rock the shot bowl out. Head played the shot in the 20th and Brydon put in a block. Nugent played into the draw, while Erceg ran through the head, missing everything. Nugent played for protection and the game' finished one point in Nugent’s favour. In the final head, when the skips came on Nugent was three up. Nugent played back bowls and Erceg just missed taking the shot bowl out, but on his last shot played into second and Nugent won 15 —13 after a great game of perfect bowling. Semi-Final Sensation. In the semi-final Erceg beat Whitelaw 13—11, Nugent drawing the bye. There was a sensational finish to the semi-final. In the last head Erceg wanted four to tie and five to win. Whitelaw pushed up the wing bowl with his last bowl and gave Erceg four up to tie and, with an extra head being played, Erceg was three down before playing his last bowl, with which he took kitty through for two. Quarter-final results were:— Nugent 13, Woledge 3; Whitelaw 12, Edgar 8; Erceg 14, Chilman 6.
