Brisk Demand Again At Patriotic Stall

To record that business was brisk at the weekly patriotic stall in Whangarei would be to underestimate considerably the demand made by purchasers. Conducted this week by members of tiie Maungatapere, Whatitiri and Poroti branch of the Whangarei Patriotic Committee, the stall early met a steady inquiry for country produce. Meat, milk, eggs and butter were in great demand and only the fact that residents in the district had responded to the call to give, enabled a fraction of the requests to be met. Dressed poultry scarcely reached tiie stall before it was claimed while the sheep, which was scheduled for sale was booked in short time, many customers anxious for muton having to be turned away disappointed. Those conducting the stall were positive that, judging by the demand, no difficulty would have been experienced in quitting a dozen sheep. Other produce also met with a ready sale and only constant replenishment by late arrivals from the district, who gave unstmtingly, enabled the stall to carry on business into the afternoon. Competitions for half a sheep, a turkey and an iced cake were well patronised and indications were that the stall would go far towards rivalling the contributions to patriotic funds made by previous controllers of the stall.
