Pedigree Cows To 34 Guineas At Rothie jersey Sale

The dispersal sale of the wellknown Rothie Jersey Stud was conducted yesterday, on account of Mr J H. Morrison, Maungatapere, by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., with Mr C. E. Robertson, stud stock manager of the company, in the rostrum. A successful sale resulted, pedigree cows selling up to 34 guineas, and yearling pedigree bulls up to 20 guineas, while grade cows sold up to £ls 10/-.

A representative attendance cf Northland breeders was present, and the cattle were sold as far south as Wellsford, while other lots went to Matakohe, Dargaville and Maromaku, local breeders obtaining a fair share of the catalogue. In Great Condition. The cattle were presented for sale in great condition, and buyers keenly competed for the choicer lots, while competition throughout the sale was well maintained. Top price was secured for the outstanding young cow, Rothie Ladybird (Huabrook Oxford Raleigh—Golden Phantom, C.0.R., 5671bs fat), who is at present under C.O.R. test, and has produced 5221bs fat in 327 days to date. She was secured by Mr W. Pratt, One Tree Point, Ruakaka. Her half-sister, Rothie Fantasia (Handsome Prince Again —Golden Phantom), also created lively competition, and was finally secured by Mr Alex Clarke, of Whareora, at 25 gns.

Another lot to create interest was the well-bred Woodlands Fashion. H.C. (Vagabond of Oaklands (Imp.)—Woodlands Vanity, V.H.C.) and she was secured by Mr R. N. Sterling, Matakohe, at 25gns. Other Sales. Other lots sold as follows: —Rothie Adoree, 24gns, D. Callaghan, Maromaku; Rothie Oxford Roselle, 22Jgns, Mrs M. A. Ralls, Towai; Rothie Carnation, 22gns, D. Callaghan, Maromaku; Rothie Beryl, 20Jgns, Mrs C. O'Callaghan, Kamo; yearling bull (O.K. Pearl's Golden Hope—Rothie Rosebud. C.0.R., Gl7lbs fat), 20gns, A. Clarke, Wharefira; Rothie Calorie (heifer), 19gns; C. H. Callaghan, Maro(heifer), 19gns, C. H. Callaghan, MaroR. McConnell, Maungatapere; Rothie Oxford Flower (heifer), 18gns, W. L. Morrison, Maungatapere; Rothie Haughty Jane, 18gns, J. F. Bryham, Waipu. A choice quality grade cow realised £ls 10/, while others made from £8 to £8 15/. A really good line of incalf heifers made from £8 5/ to £3 10/. On account of Mr W. L. Morrison, Maungatapere, a high-class line of grade weaner heifers sold at £4, young cows at £8 10/, and l'n-calf heifers at £6.
