Young Gildo Defeats Jarvis
BOXING
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”1 AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Town Hail last night in a lightweight boxing contest between Corporal Jack Jarvis of Trentham Military Camp, and Young Gildo, of I the Philippine Islands, the latter won the decision on points at the end of twelve three-minute rounds. Gildo, weight 9st. 51b., and Jarvis, 9st. 61b. Jarvis was the aggressor over the first four rounds, and Gildo.. despite a clever defence, took some hard punches on either side of the head and to the body. However, once Gildo commenced to do his share of attacking in the fifth round, he looked the ultimate winner. His punches were snappier and he scored points consistently at close range. In the closing stages, it was only a question of how big a margin Gildo would win by. Jarvis was warned for butting with his head in the tenth round, but it was a very clean contest all through.
