Maori Footballer Fatally Hurt At Okaihau
L [Special to “Northern Advocate.”] KAIKOHE, This Day. A fatal football accident occurred at Okaihau on Saturday afternoon. While taking part in a practice match sponsored by the local club, a well-known Maori footballer Jimmy Nehua, 25, of Okaihau, received injuries to his neck in a heavy fall. He was immediately taken to the Kawakawa Hospital, where he died shortly after 11 o’clock on Sunday morning. Death, it was stated, was due to a broken neck. This is the second fatal football accident to occur on this field. On June 3, 1939, a young .and promising footballer, the late S. H. Jones, received severe back injuries from which he later died. A large gathering of footballers from all parts of the North attended the Nehua funeral, which took place at Waihou Valley this afternoon.
