Ruapehu In Eruption

ISpecial to "Northern Advocate"] TAUMARUNUI, This Day, For the first time since May, 1936, Mt. Ruapehu erupted during the night. Although no sounds were heard by people at the Chateau yesterday morning, dark grey streaks were seen on the glacier and also on Para-te-fal-tonga. Guides climbed the mountain yesterday afternoon, and found that the snow for about a mile from the summit was covered with blue mud, in some places over six inches deep. An eruption had evidently occurred in the crater lake, as the surface was considerably disturbed and a fair quantity of steam was coming off.
