Surprise Party

On Tuesday evening about twenty people paid a surprise visit to Mrs Clayton Thorne at her home. Mali jongg tables were put up in the drawing room, which looked attractive with bowls of dahlias. Some of those present were: Mesdames Ross Nelson, L. J. Waddell, Bruce Marshall, R. C. Napier. I. Wilson, W. J. Glanville, A. C. Zohrab. John G. Robertson, Kelly (Auckland), C. B. Bevins. J. G. Campbell, G. M. Robertson, J. A. S. Mac Kay, W. H. Millington, W. A. Christiansen. Spencer Day, Clinton Dent. A. M. Hart and A. H. Crane. Misses Evelyn Cleary and Joan Mirrielees. Contract bridge was played at Mrs C. E. Woolley's home in Main's Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. The drawing room was beautifully arranged with bowls of guinea golds and African marigolds. The hostess, wearing a smart black georgette frock, received the guests, among whom were: Mesdames W. H. Millington, John G. Robertson. R. C. Napier. A. H. Crane, Harold Cotter, Spencer Day, W. J. Orr and H. E. G. Smith.

Mrs M. Hutchings, of Dent Street, is spending a holiday with friends in the Weiisford and Port Albert districts, and later will probably go on to Auckland.
