Willows in Stream

Willows growing along the banks of two streams where they junction at Double Crossing, Kaitaia, have a serious effect on Mr Powell’sffarm in time of flood. The chief trouble is due to negligence along the river frontage of native lands. The willows grow so thickly that they become a barrier for debris and hold back the water, causing it to /flow to a considerable depth of Mr Powell's farm. The roots have crossed the bed of the stream, forming a tangled mass. The Mangonui County Council, after hearing Mr Powell decided to bring the matter before the Native Department and it was also decided to approach the Lands Department.
