Pear And Apple Marketing

f per Press Association. Copyright ] WELLINGTON, This Day. Arrangements with ihe fruitgrowing industry to purchase the apple and pear crop were now in operation, and were confirmed by a series of regulations issued this week, said the Minister for Marketing (Mr Nash) last evening.

A "Gazette” notice sets out that the price schedule already arranged with the industry, and the detailed method of carrying out the scheme, is contained in an Order-in-Council for the necessary regulations under the Marketing. Act, 1936,” said Mr Nash. •

"The salient features of these regulations are already known to the industry, but the main principles upon which they are based are now summarised for public information.

“The control of the marketing of apples and pears is vested in the Marketing Department. All apples and pears which are intended for human consumption are required to be sold to the Marketing Department at such time and place as may be notified to producers from time to time by the department.

Exceptional Cases

“Exceptions allow a producer to sell graded fruit direct to consumers at his orchard and also make sales direct for manufacturing by-products and for purposes other than human consumption. In certain outlying districts, producers may make sales to retailers where, in the opinion, of the department, the requirements of distribution would be better suited. All such sales, however, are to be made by the producer as agent for the department. “Provision is also made that the price payable to the producer for apples and pears shall be' fixed by public notice in the “Gazette.” “ISffien fruit is accepted by the department at assembly depots, an advanced payment of 4/- a bushel case is being made promptly. At the end of the season a further payment covering adjustments in respect of grades, sizes and quantities will be made. “The Apples and Pears Marketing Advisory Committee set up by the regulations will consist of the present members of the Fruit Export Control Board, and its functions will be to advise the-department on'matters pertaining to -the marketing of apples and pears.” -
