Reactions To Churchill Speech
LONDON, January 28.
French Press accords to Mr Winston Churchill's speech an enthusiastic reception, as fully echoing the aims and sentiments of France. Home Press does not comment on the speech, which is regarded as making amends for last week’s pronouncement.
Belgium: “This time the First Lord speaks of matters within his competence, namely naval warfare,” is a Brussels’ newspaper heading, which is typical of the reaction in Belgium.
“Atrocity Campaign.”
Berlin: A semi official statement describes the speech as a continuation of the atrocity campaign which England has followed in all her wars. It connects it with “the recent demand to neutrals to ally themselves with Britain, who admits she is militarily and economically incapable of winning the war.” “Will Not Influence Outcome.” “The statement about German propaganda follows lies about a German attack on the Balkans and a British threat to Rumania, in the hope of removing domestic dissatisfaction with Britain’s war policy.
“These methods will not influence the outcome of the war, even if Britain finds fools like Poland capable of sealing their own doom without saving the English.”
