’Karamea Hockey Draw With Three Mile Bush
MID-WE STERN CRICKET
Two of the leading teams in the Mid-Western competition, Three Mile Bush and Maungakaramea Hockey, played a drawn game on Saturday. Saturated, the ’Karamea turf wicket rolled out easily, .and bowlers could get no life out of the pitch. C. Bint opened very steadily, but, in the closing stages of his long innings opened up with some excellent shots.
Bint has been in run-getting mood throughout the season and his latest innings is one of the best played in the competition this season. Agnew’s solidity alone saved Three Mile Bush from defeat. Scores:
Maungakaramea Hockey Club, 152 for seven wickets, declared (C. Bint 85, Bellfield 17, F. Bint 25; Ross took 3 for 45. Agnew 4 for 46). Three Mile Bush, 76 for seven wickets .(Agnew 43, Whitelaw 12; C. Bint took 3 for 9). PUWERA’S VICTORY. Puwera beat Springfield by nine runs in the first innings. Puwera, first innings, 69 (Elliot 28, Murray 28 not out; G. Whittle 4 for 19, L. Price 3 for 26, C. Whittle 2 for 15); second innings, 81 for seven wickets, declared (Kerr 24, Dinsdale 25 not out, Steedman 13, Cox-smith 11; L. Price 3 for 39, A. Price 2 for 12). Springfield, first innings, 60 (L. Price 40 no| out, G. Palmer 11; Elliot 7 for 32, Steedman 2 for 9); second innings, 43 for three wickets (G. Johns 21 not out, L. Price 10; Elliot 2 for 25). KERR AMONG RUNS AGAIN. In a non-competition match played at Three Mile Bush on Sunday, Puwera won comfortably on the first innings. Puwera, first innings, 114 (Kerr 47, Steedman 11, Dinsdale 13, Murray 12; Holt 4 for 29, Agnew 3 for 24); second innings, 8 for 46 (Kerr, 16 not out, Steedman 11; Holt 2 for 16, Agnew 3 for 22).
