Britain's Remarkable Torpedo Boat

(Received 1.30 pan.) LONDON, July 28. A new torpedo-boat, specially adaptable for Dominion coastal defence, was given official trials by the Admiralty on Southampton Water. It covered the measured mile at 46.5 knots an hour. It is claimed that this is a record for this type of craft. It was a remarkable performance. The boat raced down the course without vibration, and was very steady

in a cross sea and terrific wind velocity, but the craft was quite dry. It has fast acceleration and great manoouvreability and is unusually silent. The range is over 1000 miles. The length of the boat is 65 feet over all, and it is armed with two torpedo tubes, depth charges, machine-guns, automatic cannon, and smokescreen apparatus. The cost is £45,000.
