Terrible Ordeal When Tanker's Petrol Explodes
LONDON, July 28. Twenty-four survivors of the oil tanker Sunik described a terrible ordeal, when, after a collision with the Swedish steamer, the tanker’s 5000 tons of petrol converted the* sea into i blazing cauldron over a radius of a mile. The captains of both ships and nine of the Simile’s crew, were thrown into ihe sea when the Sunik’s boilers burst after the collision, and were burned
to death as they tried to swim through the (lames.
Lifeboats began to burn while the scorched rowers struggled to win clear ci the danger zone, .and several of the survivors were badly burned. The bows of the Grangesberg caught fire while she was locked with the Sunik. and were still burning when she reached Falmouth this morning. The blazing Sunik lit up the sea fox 1 miles all night.
