[Special to “Northern Advocate”l CHRISTCHURCH, Friday.
Fears for the safety of Pilot-Officer Lloyd Parry, aged 19, of Christchurch, pilot of the West Coast United. Aero Club's Tiger Moth plane, who was believed late yesterday afternoon to have crashed in the Southern Alps when flying from Christchurch to Greymouth, were relieved when advice was received this morning that the plane had made a forced landing on a river flat 30 miles from Greymouth,
Engine trouble is believed to have forced the machine down.
Pilot-Officer Parry walked eight miles to the Greymouth-Otira highway, where a motorist gave him a lift to Greymouth. The aeroplane was not damaged.
The French flier, Rossi, left Istres shortly before 5 a.m. in an attempt to break the world speed record for loaded planes over a 10,000 kilometre closed circuit, and also the distance record over a closed circuit. He is flying via Paris, Istres and Basti.a.
