Further Hope For AngloSoviet Pact

(Received 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, July 26. The Prime Minister, Mr Chamberlain, in the House of Commons, said fresh instructions had last night been sent to the British Ambassador in Moscow, Sir William Seeds, and he hoped to be in a position to make a statement in the House of Commons early next week. Asked whether it was true, as stated in the press, that it had been agreed that military and naval talks would take place in Moscow, Mr Chamberlain replied: “We have sent further instructions to Sir William Seeds, but we have not yet heard the reactions.” Asked if the French were sending a military mission to Moscow, he replied: “I stated before that France and Britain are acting in close collaboration.”

All the morning newspapers carry full reports of the forthcoming staff talks between Britain and the Soviet, and the immminent signature of a pact between Britain, France and the Soviet, states an Independent Cable Service message.
