Lucky Couple At Oue Centennial Dance

Rawcne’s first function to raise funds towards Hokianga’s share for the Centennial Exhibition expenses was a
great success and took the form of a ball at the One Hal!.
There was a large attendance of dancers from far and near and a varied programme met with the approval of the dancers.
The capable M.C. was Mr B. Gardes, who carried out his duties efficiently, and the gay music was supplied by the Dixie Band.
Many novelty dances were held during the evening and the most popular dance was the waltzing competition, of which Mr and Mrs J. Drain were the winners. The judging was ably earned out by Messrs I. Bryers and W. Williams. Mr and Mrs J. Fra in also won the. Monte Carlo. The competition was won by Mr C. Bell. The profit from the ball, which amounted to about .£8 10/. together with £lO contributed by the Town Board, is a big step towards raising the specified amount. The ladies’ committee for the ball was Mesdamcs J. Whitefield, -who wore jade and silver faille; A. Curry, tangerine and ombre. georgette; R. Cox, black romaine; .L. Donaldson, beige satin: Misses A. Garcia, gold satin and coatee; R. Livcrsedge, buttercup satin and coatee; I. Wbitetield. cream georgette and sequins.
Noticed among the large attendance were Mosdames J. Frain, midnight blue velvet; T. W. McCown, clover velvet; H. Davern, blade satin and red velvet cape; J. Rollinson, black georgette; A. Letts, black and silver georgette;; E. Lowe, black crepe; W. E. Preston, ivory georgehc and lace; S. King, black romaine satin and lace; Misses Inga Andrewes. dream of midnight and scqu.ns; K. Baker. carnillia organdie; W. Andrewes, pink net over taffeta; R. Roberts, black cloquo, F. Bryers. green floral crepe; O. Baker, floral taffeta; J. Bulhie. shot taffeta; O.
