[Special to “Northern Advocate ” 3 KAIKOHE, This Day.
Captain F. W. Voelcker’s fishing camp at Wainui has closed for this season.
During the season just closed, 59 big game fish were landed, .and they consisted of five black marlin, 31 striped marlin, 19 mako shark, two hammerhead sharks and two kingfish.
The total weight of all the fish landed in 48 fishing days was 14,4461b5. Mr G. L. Schroder, of Kerikeri, was the most successful angler to attend the camp, he having landed three black marlin; seven mako sharks, and 16 striped marlin. Other successful anglers came from Kaikohe, Kaeo, Hikurangi, Whangarei, Auckland, Hastings, New Plymouth and Wellington. Besides catching the first swordfish of the season and the largest number of game fish from any one boat, Captain Voelcker’s party probably established a record by catching seven fish in one day, and finishing up the last day’s fishing by securing what ‘is claimed as the longest swordfish ever landed. It measured 13 feet 7£ inches.
