Women’s Institutes Kaiwaka
A very enjoyable afternoon was spent at the January meeting of the Kaiwaka Women’s Institute, which took the form of a miniature flower show, and children’s afternoon. After welcoming the members and visiters, the president, Mrs. Hall, commented upon the beautiful display of flowers, which, she said had far excelled her expectations. Prizes were awarded as follows: One bloom, any variety, Miss Joyce Littin. Three blooms, one variety (prize donated by Mrs. Hall), Mrs. Leslie, Snr. Bowl of foliage, Mrs. Leslie Senr. Vase, table decoration, Mrs. Wm. Littin. Six carnations (prize donated by Mrs. W. R. Dowson), Miss Joyce Littin. Vase of stock (prize donated by Mrs. R. D. Leslie), Miss Joyce Littin. Mixed bowl (prize donated by Mrs. A. W. Leslie), Mrs. Leslie, Snr. Man’s buttonhole, made by. a schoolgirl (prize donated by Mrs. Wm. Littin), Jill Mills. Man’s buttonhole, made by a schoolboy (prize donated by Mrs. Wm. Littin), Peter Smith. No second prizes were awarded.
There was a bran-tub for the children, which was very well patronised by the little folk. Opportunity was taken to present Mrs. Barton,, who is leaving the district, with a handsome manicure set, as a parting gift. x
The competition for a Madeira cake was won by Mrs. A. W. teslie, with Mrs. Stubbs second. The hostesses were Mrs. R. A. Hill and Miss Linnell,
