Britain Is United Nation On Defence Needs
RUGBY, November 15. Speakingat the Constitutional Club, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, said he thought there was reason to be satisfied that the necessity for British rearmament was recognised practically universally throughout the country, and was appreciated both by Government supporters and those who consistently criticised the Government. In this matter Britain stood as a united nation.
Dead animals, left lying anout and becoming offensive to health had been the subject of several complaints, the sanitary inspector reported to the Mangonui County Council yesterday. Some farmers failed to realise that under the Health Act this was an offence and that every person by whose act, default or sufferance a nuisance arose was liable to a fine of £2O and if the person convicted could lawfully abate such nuisance he was liable to ,a further fine of £5 for every day during which such nuisance remains after conviction.
Hand Cut by Glass. When a piece of glassware she was drying broke in her hand, Miss Vera Bailey, of the staff of the Central Dining Rooms, suffered severe cuts to one hand, necessitating the insertion of four stitches. Although painful, the wounds are not expected to prove serious.
The King gave audiences tc Mr B. C. Newton, Minister at Prague, and Vice-Admiral Sir Francis Tottenham on relinquishing his appointment as commander-in-chief of the Africa station.
