Whangarei Athletes Commence Season
With about a dozen athletes attending the inaugural track meeting for the season at the High School grounds last evening, big hopes for 1938-39 are entertained by the Whangarei Amateur Athletic Club.
In preparation for the season’s competitions, which will commence next Wednesday evening, last night’s activities were in the nature of trial events over 100 yards and 880 yards distances, as a result of which preliminary handicaps have beeh decided. All runners performed well for the initial effort of the season.
It is expected that next week’s events, in addition to flat races, will include at least one field event.
