J. B. HOBBS, champion English batsman, who predicts that unless rain falls Australia will succeed in drawing the Notts test, played for Surrey in first class cricket from 1905 to 1934. In that time he made, as an opening batsman, 3636 runs, a record in test cricket. This included twelve centuries. Bradman has also made 12 centuries and needs 180 runs to beat the record aggregate. In first class cricket Hobbs made 61,221 runs, including 197 three-figure scores.
