KAITAIA ROWLING CLUB AFFAIRS
The Kailaia Bowling Club, at a general meeting on Friday evening, spent a considerable time discussing matters of importance to the club. The maintenance of the green in good playing order was a matter which received much prominence. Dissatisfaction with the present state of affairs was general, and there was a recognition of the fact that if players were to have the conditions they wan I. they must be prepared 10 pay.
Position of Croquet Club,
One suggestion was that the Croquet Club which, though an independent body, shares in the services of the greenkeeper. towards which iijrnakes a contribution, should pay more than it doss at present. Some went so far as to say that there should be either a complete separation of the two clubs, each providing for its own caretaker, or that the Bowling Club should have control of the Croquet Club. The Croquet Club, it was pointed out. had a limited membership of about 34, and nearly all the members paid £l/1/- per annum each as subscription, Lawnmower. There was a motion before the meeting with regard to the purchase of a new lawnmower, and the main point in this connection was whether the mower should be driven by power or by manual labour. Finally, it was decided to obtain particulars about bofTi kinds, but the weight of opinion was that a man-driven machine should be obtained before the opening of next season.
Good Feeling Continuance.
There was a strong feeling in favour of preserving the present relationship with the Croquet Club, which, it was pointed out, had been of assistance to the Bowling Club in many ways, and had never refused help when called upon.
There was an equally strong opinion that if a motor-driven mower is purchased. it should be used exclusively on the bowling green, and that the ladies should make their own arrangements for a greenkeeper. It was evident from the discussion that the Bowling Club, with its increasing membership and more constant use of the greens, must make better provision fcr maintenance, and that the financial position must be strengthened.
The levy of ?0/- per member authorised for the present season is to be collected, and a further levy'will have to be made next season.
