POPE PRESIDES OVER IMPORTANT MEETING
(Received 10 a.m.) ROME, June 20. Great importance is attached to a secret meeting of the Congregation of Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs, attending by 11 cardinals, over which the Pope presided, which is a rare occurrence. '
It is believed that the gathering discussed the situation' in Spain • and the position of the church in Germany. This is borne out by the strong wording of an Apostolic Letter, which the Pope sent to the Eucharistic Congress at Posen, chiefly condemning Communism, but many phrases of whichJ were equally strong strictures on Nazi-ism.
While the Pope was conferring with cardinals, says a Berlin message, Dr. Wagner, Governor of Bavaria, announced that 11, Catholic schools in Bavaria had been closed, and the ilemainjder secularised. He added that the Pope wept over Germany, which, however, would be happier if Ije ordered the Church’s representatives to submit to State authority.
