LITTLE FAST WORK AT ELLERSLIE
Late Sporting
ISvecial to “Northern Advocate "J AUCKLAND, This Day. There was very little fast work at Ellerslie this morning, and the going on No. 3 grass track, on which the poles were out 10ft, was heavy, the majority of the horses being allotted pace work on the sand.
Thurwind strode over a round in 1.52 3-5. He increased the pace over the last three furlongs, which he ran in 41 3-ssec. Aero Queen was sent six furlongs,, but was doing a shade better than 15sec to the furlong. Armacourt was allotted a round, and, after commencing slowly, she was timed to run her last six furlongs in 1.23. Don Erma traversed a round in 1.52, the last six furlongs taking 1.26 4-5.
This horse has done well since the Great Northern meeting. Valmint reeled off six furlongs in 1.22 3-ssec. first three being covered in 39 3-ssec. Scrounger assisted him over the last half-mile, which took 54sec, the latter being several lengths away at the finish, though he went well for a novice. Black Marlin did strong work over a round and was timed to run his last half-mile in 58sec. This horse is now bearing an improved appearance. Lord Val finished up a useful task by running his last three furlongs, in 43sec., On the sand, My Money, Jolly Dance, and a gelding by Acre from Diamond Queen, ran home from the half-mile post in 54 4-ssec. They were doing their work well at the finish.
