King’s Play Victory Disapproved

At the conclusion of the last race at the Auckland Trotting Club's winter meeting at Epsom on Saturday, a large section, of the crowd remained for almost an hour hooting and jeering their disapproval of the result. The horse singled out for the disapproval was the winner, King’s Play.

The’ demonstration, continued until King’s Play left the birdcage, and was renewed with greater vigour as dusk approached.

An inquiry was held into the running pf King’s Play, after it had given an indifferent performance in the main event of the day,, the Adams Memorial Cup Handicap, for which it was fav- '■■■- ' ■ V

In the last race, the Cornwall Handicap, King’s Play was third favourite oh the win machine and sixth on the place. Payment of dividends was withheld during the inquiry, and it was announced when the Stewards’ meeting ended that the inquiry would ,be concluded hoday. , . '

The - attendance was 12,000. Investments amounted, to £33,121, compared with £18,958 last year, an increase of £14,163. The track was slow. Results:— ,i'
