Inconsistent Old Boys Down Hikurangi
THE JUNIORS
Old Boys held the upper hand throughout at Hikurangi, upsetting all calculations by a 15 —5 defeat of the local side. An inconsistent side this season, they rose to the occasion, with the forwards dominating their N section and the backs revealing speed and determined combination. In the first spell Stockwell scored and Potter kicked a penalty. Hikurangi gained their only success later in the game when a front row forward crossed for'Martin to kick the goal. Second session try-getters for Old
Boys were Stockwell,. Turner and Smith. •
Whatitiri, playing a man short throughout, conceded a 34 —3 win to City, whose scorers were Barber (2), Doel (2), Chissell (3), Reed and Derecourt. Doel converted one, and Chissell brought his individual tally to 14, with a penalty and conversion. For Whatitiri, Mclntyre landed a penalty.
Now leading in the competition, which ;they won last season, Onerahi defeated Waiotira 11 to nil. Trygetters were McKenzie, Redwood and Fisher. With Forbes and Redwood, Joass, who converted one try,' was outstanding. The Waiotira forwards more than held their own, and the full-back acquitted himself splendidly.
High School outclassed Waikiekie in their game on No-. 2 ground. School’s victory was due to their superior team-work and open play, Waikiekie playing into their hands by adopting similar tactics. Mason’s fine kicking was a great feature in building up School’s total.
McMasters and Webster each scored a try for Waikiekie. Thorley scored twice for School, one try being converted by Mason, who also kicked two penalties.—School 17, Waikiekie 6.
