BOY, AGED 12, ACCIDENTALLY SHOT DEAD
ISpecial to “Northern Advocate KAITAIA, This Day. Kenneth Vivian Kirtlan, adopted son of Mr William Kirtlan, of Pamapuria, met his death on Sunday afternoon at Takahue, as a result of the accidental discharge of a gun. On Sunday' the deceased visited his uncle at Takahue and, after lunch, went out with his cousin, Harold Kirtlan, aged 15, shooting, taking With them a double-barrelled gun, the property of the uncle. At 2.30, while they were sitting on the ground, close together, deceased took the gun from his cousin and, in the action, the charge in one of the barrels was exploded, the shot entering the breast of deceased. The cousin hastened home and returned immediately, accompanied by Ms father, but, by the time they arrived, the boy was dead and it would appear that death had been almost instantaneous. The deceased was taken on a stretcher to the home of his uncle, and the police were notified. An inquest was opened by the District* Coroner, Mr L. A. Mclntosh, in the afternoon and, after evidence of identification was adjourned to June 28.
