Portland Retain Riverhead Cup
On Saturday afternoon, members of the Maungatapere Golf Club visited the Portland links ' and met the local players in a series of games for the Riverhead Cup. Portland retained the cup by winning 17 games to Maungatapere’s fbur. The following are the results of the games (Portland names first): —
Men; Chilman lost to Adlam. 7 and 5; Atkins beat Going, 8 and 7; R. Wilson beat Newton, 5 and 4; Williams lost to Dawson, 2 and 1; Cox beat Walkin, 1 up; Henry beat Jackman. 5 and 4; Wilding lost to Mason, 4 and 3; Gillespie beat P. Newton, 2 and 1; Naylor beat Feaver, 4 and 3; Rogers beat Bradley, 5 and 4; Anderson beat Newton, 2 and 1; McLaren beat McLeod, 5 and 4; Town lost to Hawkin. 7 and 6; George beat Adlam, 5 and .4.
