Te Kao His First Cattle Sale

The first cattle sale ever to be held in Te Kao, near Spirits Bay, took place on Friday. It was conducted by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., on the Native Departments property on behalf of Maori dairy farmers in the locality who are farming under the Native Department Development scheme. 1

| A good yarding was offered to a large bench of buyers who bid freely and paid exceptionally good prices for the class of stock which was comprised chiefly of springers, empty dairy cows and a few springing heifers. Light fat dairy breeds made £4 10/to £5 5/-; lighter sorts, £3 15/- to £4 5/-; empty cows, dairy breeds, £2 2/- to £3 5/-; poorer conditioned cows, £1 to £1 10/-; springing dairy heifers, £4 to £4 15/-; more backward sorts, £3 to £4; yearling Jersey cross heifers to £2 2/-; yearling Jersey steers, 15/- to 20/-; light boner bulls, to £2/10/-..
