GERMANY’S PROTEST AT ANTI-NAZI MOVE

SOUTH-WEST AFRICA

—— : —♦ British Official Quarters Watching With Interest (Received 2 p.m.) CAPETOWN, April 5. The German Minister has presented a protest to General Hertzog against the anti-Nazi proclamation regarding South-West Africa. He declares that it must be regarded as a coxnbatative measure against Germans. The protest refers to the report of the South-West Africa Commission as producing unproved allegations, on which the proclamation was based. The German Note denies that Germans are interfering with institutions in South-West Africa, and adds that the German Government, which repeatedly urged elimination of pensions by mutual understanding, now considers it to be its duty to raise a warning, and asks the Union Government to take steps to prevent serious damage in carrying out the proclamation. A London message states that, strictly in accordance with constitutional procedure, no documents have so far been sent to London in connection with the dispute between General Hertzog and Herr Hitler over SouthWest Africa!. British official quarters are watching interestedly, as they are confronted for the first time since the Dominions secured their new status with a major incident between a Dominion and a foreign Power.
