AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE
Whangarei Support for N ational Undertaking An invitation to attend a .public meeting convened by the Mayor .. of Takapuna, to be held in Auckland tonight. .to discuss, ways and means of expediting the construction of the Auckland harbour bridge as a national undertaking and without .cost to the ratepayers, was received by the Whangarei Borough Council last night.' The deputy-niayor said that the council could make its attitude known either by personal representation of by telegraph. Cr. E. G. W. Tibbits: It is a waste of time' attending such a meeting, the business of which could be transacted in five minutes. Voting power is what they want and we can make our opinion clear by wire. It was decided to inform the Mayor of Takapuna that the council was agreeable to the construction of the bridge as a national undertaking, and without any responsibility upon the ratepayers. ' The purpose of the meeting is to set up a strong committee comprising representatives of local bodies, leading business men, the Automobile Asso- ' ciation, trades unions, etc., with a view to ultimately approaching the Auckland City Council for its support.
